Boosting investor confidence and sustainability
Aligned with global best practices and the UAE’s long-term Net Zero vision, the code creates a clear, consistent, and transparent regulatory environment. It supports public–private collaboration while positioning Abu Dhabi as a reliable hub for sustainable energy investment.
Harnessing AI and advanced technology
During the event, DoE highlighted its use of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to enhance regulatory frameworks, improve safety, and ensure compliance. These initiatives tie into the Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030, helping Abu Dhabi build a more efficient and sustainable energy system.
DoE leadership on sector transformation
Dr Abdulla Al Jarwan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, said:
“Abu Dhabi’s energy sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation driven by innovation. The launch of the Unified Gas Code marks a strategic milestone in developing a safe, efficient, and sustainable energy system that reflects the vision of our leadership and supports the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 goals.”
Comprehensive oversight for petroleum products
DoE has also developed a robust regulatory framework for more than 100 petroleum products, fostering safety, reliability, and efficiency while encouraging private sector investment and innovation.
Optimising energy management for efficiency and impact
Through initiatives such as digital transformation, AI integration, and new regulatory processes, the department is improving operational efficiency and supporting a transition to low-carbon fuels and electrification of buildings. These measures could save residential customers over AED 100 million annually and reduce emissions by more than 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent by 2050—the same as removing 40,000 cars from the roads.
Abu Dhabi’s role in global sustainable energy
The Unified Gas Code and accompanying initiatives reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for energy innovation, supporting the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the nation’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions.
