Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways have officially announced the launch of codeshare flights linking nineteen global destinations, marking a significant expansion in air connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The partnership, set to commence operations on October 26, 2025, enhances flight options between Doha’s Hamad International Airport and Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, fortifying both airlines’ positions as major gateways for international travelers.
A Partnership to Strengthen Regional and Global Networks
Under the new agreement, Kenya Airways customers can now book direct codeshare flights from Nairobi to Doha, with easy connections to ten destinations across Asia and the Middle East via Hamad International Airport.
Similarly, Qatar Airways passengers gain access to eight destinations within Kenya Airways’ African network, supported by three daily flights between Nairobi and Doha. This collaboration offers passengers increased flexibility, more seamless transfers, and access to a wider variety of cultural and business destinations.
Flight bookings opened on October 21, 2025, marking a milestone in expanding access between some of the world’s fastest-growing travel markets.
Expanding Access to Key African and Asian Destinations
Through the agreement, Qatar Airways enriches its African network by connecting travelers from over 170 global destinations to cities served by Kenya Airways. These include Lilongwe (Malawi), Livingstone (Zambia), Juba (South Sudan), Nampula (Mozambique), Ndola (Zambia), and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe).
Meanwhile, Kenya Airways passengers can access strategic hubs and leisure markets across ten countries in Asia and the Middle East, including Bahrain, Colombo (Sri Lanka), Islamabad and Karachi (Pakistan), Malé (Maldives), Singapore, and Tokyo Narita (Japan). These destinations are accessible via Hamad International Airport in Doha, which has been named the “Best Airport in the Middle East” for eleven consecutive years, according to Skytrax rankings.
Enhancing Tourism and Economic Connectivity
This expanded codeshare is expected to greatly benefit the tourism and business ecosystems of both nations and their regional partners. Kenya’s growing role as a key air gateway for Sub-Saharan Africa, coupled with Qatar’s strategic position as a global aviation hub, provides seamless east–west connections for travelers seeking multi-destination tourism and business travel opportunities.
The collaboration opens the door for increased inbound tourism to Kenya’s safari parks, coastal resorts, and cultural heritage attractions, while simultaneously promoting Doha’s luxury travel sector through greater visitor access from African cities.
Both airlines anticipate that the agreement will contribute significantly to the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) objectives of improving inter-regional connectivity and tourism-driven economic development across Africa and Asia.
Strengthening Airline Presence and Passenger Benefits
Qatar Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori emphasized that the partnership builds upon the airline’s expanding presence in Africa, driven by surging demand for reliable connectivity. The airline recently introduced its third daily service to Nairobi, reflecting the strong passenger growth from both leisure and corporate segments.
Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu highlighted that this alliance enhances travel convenience while positioning Nairobi and Doha as dual connectivity hubs. By jointly operating routes and coordinating schedules, both airlines aim to minimize layover times and expand passenger options for long-haul travel.
Furthermore, Qatar Airways Privilege Club members will earn Avios when traveling on Kenya Airways-operated codeshare flights, while exploring broader opportunities through aligned loyalty benefits. This integration enhances brand synergy between the two carriers, delivering superior value to frequent travelers.
Broader Collaboration Beyond Passenger Services
The partnership is also designed to extend well beyond passenger operations. Future phases of cooperation will include cargo services, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul operations (MRO), airport lounge management, joint sustainability initiatives, and procurement processes.
Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways are committed to developing co‑branded sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions across their networks and promoting environmentally responsible aviation. This aligns with both airlines’ long-term decarbonization strategies and the IATA environmental framework for sustainable aviation goals by 2050.
A Strategic Boost for African Aviation and Tourism
This alliance underscores Qatar Airways’ strategy to expand into new African markets by leveraging mutually beneficial partnerships. Africa’s aviation market has shown strong post-pandemic recovery, with IATA projecting 5.8 percent annual traffic growth through 2030.
For Kenya, the agreement represents a milestone in positioning Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as a premier continental hub connecting Africa to Asia and the Middle East. With increased frequencies, multi-country connections, and integrated logistics, Kenya Airways strengthens its international profile and its role within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Tourism officials in both Kenya and Qatar expect this development to drive visitor arrivals, trade growth, and aviation-related employment, reaffirming air transport as a pillar of national economic diversification strategies.
Aviation’s Role in Supporting Global Tourism
The codeshare expansion between the two airlines comes at a time when tourism industries in both regions are growing rapidly. Kenya continues to attract visitors with its world-renowned safari parks, the Maasai Mara, and coastal retreats in Diani and Mombasa. Meanwhile, Qatar is gaining global recognition through major international events and attractions such as the Doha Corniche, Lusail Boulevard, and the National Museum of Qatar.
By bridging diverse geographies, this initiative serves not only to connect cities but also to unite tourism ecosystems, giving travelers access to new cultures through convenient routing.
