Turkey and Kuwait signed four agreements on Tuesday in a ceremony at Bayan Palace in Kuwait City witnessed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
The governments concluded a maritime transport agreement as well as a separate memorandum of understanding providing mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates between Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Kuwait’s Interior Ministry. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Youssef Saud al-Sabah signed the documents.
Energy ministers Alparslan Bayraktar of Turkey and Subaih Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen al-Muhaizem of Kuwait signed a memorandum on cooperation in electricity, energy efficiency and renewable energy. The countries said the deal sets a framework for joint projects and for training, consulting and engineering services.
A fourth memorandum promotes direct investment between Turkey’s Presidency Investment and Finance Office and Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority. It was signed by Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu and Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah.
Erdoğan’s stop in Kuwait is part of a Gulf tour that also includes Qatar and Oman.
